Support for two one-day workshops on child mental health in Palestine
Mental health in the Arab World is a taboo subject and the stigma attached to children with problems whether inherited or acquired is particularly damaging.
IMET2000 has a long term training programme for young psychiatrists, psychologists and other professionals. However, to cope with the short term shortage of good quality treatment of children, we are holding regular one-day workshops open to family practitioners, mental health nurses, social workers and schoolteachers so that at least a start can be made.
These are invariably oversubscribed and because we recruit high quality speakers from within Palestine and from overseas, have been really successful. The altered perceptions of mental health in a positive direction over the last five years is really heartening.
