Past Events - 2016
In collaboration with the Palestinian Ministry of Health and as part of our Infection Control Training Program, we organised a workshop on “ How to prevent central line and ventilator related infections". The workshop attended by more than 25 doctors and nurses working in intensive care units in Palestine. IMET2000 will continue organising similar workshops to offer training for all those working on this field.
Having recruited two promising young physicians in Gaza to make a career in child mental health, we are delighted that they have both been accepted for a four year psychiatry residency in the Irbid School of Medicine Mental Health programme. They are due to start at the end of July and we hope that they can get to Irbid in time. IMET2000 will support them for their whole training and then once completed in Jordan will bring them to the UK for specialist child psychiatry training.
IMET2000 is pleased to announce that their most generous supporter Interpal has made a grant to support the setting up and running of a Centre based in Ramallah for the Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS) course. We were asked to set this up by the Minister of Health after requests from the Palestinian Surgical Association who wanted to bring their body into line with the rest of the Arab World. A suitable venue is now being discussed by the Minister and we hope to start furnishing and equipping it in the next couple of months once a decision has been taken.
IMET2000 CEO Dr Malik Zaben met the Palestinian Minister of Health, Dr Jawad Awad, and the director of continuing medical education, Dr Amal Abu Awad, in Ramallah. Top on the agenda of the meeting were:
- Development of a national strategic plan to organise professional health career development training in Palestine
- Establishing a centre of training for Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS)
- Potential future projects and collaboration
Opening of the information centres
In partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Health IMET2000 opened the electronic health library at Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital in Tulkarem. This centre is one out of five other centres that IMET2000 has refurbished and fully sponsred in the West Bank. These centres are now functioning and mainly used to boost continuing health education and online courses.
Emergency Nursing Training- University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, UK
As an essential component of our whole trauma programme, we arranged and supported the training of 9 nurses from Bethlehem University in the A&E Department of the Heath Hospital in Cardiff under the supervision of our CEO Dr Malik Zaben. Over a period of 4 weeks the Palestinians had intensive practical training on patients and went out with paramedics in ambulances in the A&E service for a very busy area of Wales. The feedback we have had has been excellent and this is an initiative we would be interested in doing annually or bi-annually. This practical experience was not only welcomed by the nurses themselves but formed an essential module in their MSc degree.
